Forefathers are a high energy Afro-Funk outfit from Sheffield. The lively ensemble formed late 2015, immediately playing sell-out shows across the UK.
Forefathers combine world music like Afro-Beat and Salsa with a healthy dash of Jazz and Funk-Rock.
The result is a high energy 7-piece band, complete with trumpet, saxophones and extra percussion.
They topped their first year of extensive gigs by playing Tramlines and Y Not Festival - shooting to promoter's attention supporting 'Titans of the Festival Circuit' Hot 8 Brass Band, as well as playing with the Mouse Outfit, Utah Saints, Ghouls, Sonic Boom Six & Mango Rescue Team.
The release of their first single “Respectfully Sexually”, lead to critical acclaim by the BBC and airtime across local and national radio stations.
"Great upbeat stuff from this outfit.....I would imagine one of their gigs is the type of gig you go to and you cant stand still, even if you've had a bad day, you just wanna dance! - Christian Carlisle - BBC Introducing.
The success of this led to them being signed by the Mango Disco label and the recording of their EP at Yellow Arch Studios.
The resulting EP launch gig at Haggler's Corner fully sold out and the single 'Gentrifination' made it back onto BBC Introducing within 2 days.
Forefather's have played gigs at prestigious venues such as The O2 Academy & Beaver Words and have a full summer of festivals lined up including Y NOT and Tramlines.
